Lady Blade Gwuenevere - Updated for Artfight

Very late for Artfight, but here's updated art of Gwuenevere with her magic Thread and her Woven Blade.

Gwuenevere prepares an attack with a flourish of magical splendor. Sprouting from her fingers are thin thread, flowing together into long cords of crystalized ichor which is then molded into a blade. Woven by thousands of magical Threads, the blade takes on a piercing shape. Like that of a sewing needle, it displays an eye by which Gwuenevere's Thread flows through.

It seems to be made with precise attention, but it is short and deceptively brittle. While Gwuenevere 's Woven Blade does not cut well, it is made to puncture. To quickly dart and dig into the enemy's core and out again. The blade carries her Thread into their wounds, which its strands then burst into a painful cluster of metal crystals. With their interiors made from Gwuenevere's ichor, these crystals bleed themselves deeper and grow more of themselves from within.

A devastating sight to witness. Yet many witless War-Fitted would find themselves bearing ichor scars from their battles with Gwuenevere. Some, if very unfortunate, would face their demise by her blade. Those crystals creep deep, damaging the integrity of one's ichor structure, leaving a wake of destruction that corrodes throughout.

A ruination that finds no cure by any measure.

Hoping the worldbuilding pays off ahahh

 Writing Gwenny's backstory draft rough:

...But, alas, the thronewolf sensed something nearby and turned its massive mossy rusted head towards Gwenny and his curios. Gwenny ushered the curios on, led by another curio, and tried to distract the thronewolf from killing them and devouring their kernels, dooming the young to a final Death. Risking himself of grave injury, knowing the curios are scared and panicking, Gwenny unlatches his silver suppressor collar and summon forth magic.

As a fragile, especially an Apparel, Gwenny had to wear a suppressor to keep his magic from harming himself. It is common law in most kingdoms, though lingering rumors question its relevance and hindrance in the daily lives of fragilekind, especially in extreme circumstances as this. For the law demands that all fragiles must suppress, least they be a danger to themselves or to others. However, such a law implies that Gwenny should, in this situation, completely sacrifice himself to the beast to save the curios. Dying a violent true death with no hope of revival. To give the curios a briefest chance of escape.

Gwenny knew that the curios were still too far from the Abbey and his death will only satiate the thronewolf for only a moment. It is a large beast, possibly decades old, battle scarred, rotted, and rusted, hungry for ichor to repair its molding splintered wounds. Gathering his wits, with knowledge of both Calderian and Longermorian wildlife, Gwenny spurred forth fire from his hands. Ignoring the searing pain of the flames burning his fabric body, he forced fire onto the ground, allowing it to spread towards the beast. The thronewolf tried to plow forward through the flames, embers licking at its mossy head as it opens its great maw of rusted metal and molded wood. The beast lunged and Gwenny dodged, his right arm caught in the beast’s blackened jaw. Angry and hurt, Gwenny poured more power through his right arm straight into the beast’s cavernous body.

Screaming, Gwenny briefly feels a sudden burst of pain as his arm incinerates from this spell. As he grows weak, the thronewolf, finally realizing it met its match, released Gwenny in a panic as flames ate through its body. It turned to leave, but before it ran back into the forest deep, a blade soar through the air, stabbing deeply into its back. Another sword and another, and the beast fell. With one final living blade slicing off its head, the beast dies as its ichor retreats into a decaying withered kernel within its smoldering chest.

[Name], nobelhatched mage staff of the castle of this area containing the Abbey, swiftly puts out the flames before they can do anymore damage. But for Gwenny, as his vision fades, sees the anger of the staff as he stared at him. Gwenny knew, thoughts just barely coming through as his ichor retreats, that his actions cost him everything....

Eightenate Character Poses WIP

Eightenate Character Poses! Next is color and the expressions page.

It's fine her arms change their length between poses here. I like the idea that whatever a living object is doing, their limbs will shift their mass for that purpose.

An ability called Ichormancy.

I.e: jumping from a high place onto the ground requires the limbs (Eightenate's arms in this case) to thicken to absorb the shock when landing. If climbing, they lengthen. If fighting (which happens very often for earthkind like Eightenate), their limbs form thicker skin/scales for protection. And so on.

Advanced Ichormancy may allow an object to shift their limbs to extreme forms or disconnect them, allowing the limbs to float and have a wider range of movement. Example: Swords and their floating hands.

Eightenate's eye is a rare form of natural Ichormancy where she had gravely injured her core but her strong will prevented her ichor structure from retreating into a kernel. This forms a germ at the site where her core was injured. As with some partially revived objects with this rare condition, eventually, this germ may need to be extracted to prevent further injury as it will absorb any material surrounding it to create a new curio.

Eightenate is lucky that this germ is dormant...for now. It occasionally throbs, but it's nothing that a sip of mercury can't soothe. As long as she does not need to be revived again, Eightenate needs not worry about it.

Oh, and the die in her eye is mostly for cosmetic purposes. She can't see out of it, but she likes the way it looks.

WOR Style Test

I just completed this concept of my characters, Eightenate, Inga, and Gwenny, for a future project to create 3D models for a World of Relics 3D test comic. For these character models, I want them to best match the original style presented in this image.

First up will be Eightenate🔮

Working on Sylvania the Elven Ground Staff!

Working on Sylvania the Elven Ground Staff #WIP!

I was inspired by a sponsorship ad in Lifering’s exit interview episode I have seen a while ago on Youtube.

Her war-object design is based on Sylvania of the Spirit Keep. I incorporated a few elements from her elven design, such as her chest plate, hip guards, and pauldrons, into her staff from the game.

I had some troubleshooting on her staff design. Polearms usually have a blade at the end for a long-range strike, like halberds, spears, or tridents. The blade-like protrusions on the head of Sylvania's staff don’t look like they are made for striking from the side.

For something that looks close to her staff weapon in Raid, I was able to find the Fangtian Ji, a Chinese spear from the Song dynasty (960–1279AD), designed for striking opponents directly or knocking them off their horses with the spear tip or side blade. (see also the Dagger Axe for a better context of her design).

Sylvania does not do this in the gameplay footage in the ad, she just strikes the ground with an AOE attack. So, I think it’s a staff weapon for casting powerful magic.

In this design, I exaggerated the blades and lengthened the spearhead. It made her look very intimidating in my style. A powerful and high-ranking war-staff!

Gwuenevere and her First Spell

A short mini-comic about Gwuenevere casting her first spell at 32. It did not go well.

Ink and ink wash for the majority of this sketch. Acrylic paint and ink for the crystal.

And a special blurb that inspired this below! Warning, it's a bit rough, so mispellings and typos abound! CW for self-injury, body horror, and near-death.

Update on Pyroblast the War-Torch (Paintbrush II fanart)

I sketched out their facial and head anatomy. I like a naturalistic style with my object characters, so I added a slight curve on Pyroblast's head. I also gave them a fuller pompadour bristle style, too!

Wing anatomy was something I was stuck on for a bit, mostly because I was bouncing between robotic wings vs a more naturalistic bird-like wing. While designing this, I realized that polearm war-objects like Pyroblast would need some protection on their wing joints and shoulder. So I added a pauldron over the should joint that overlaps with the start of the wing and a segmented couter(?) at the elbow. I also added segmented bands over the metal primary feathers of Pyroblast's wing.

As for the material makeup of a polearm's anatomy: Both flying and ground polearms are made of strong light metals and wood. The wings of a flying polearm are made up of aluminum/thin steel sheets (still researching this) enchanted with spells to strengthen them for combat, flight, and high temperatures. Pyroblast is a Heavy Class General Dread-torch, so their materials need to handle stress from high heat from their fire magic, extreme turbulence from the dynamic flight, and from any attacks from other Dread-torches.

Lower rank war-torches are mostly for aerial attacks on ground armies, while Dread-torches are castle destroyers. Castles would need defense against Dread-torches, either from using Dread-torches of their own (provided from their kingdom's capital, usually for heavily targeted castles) or using other means of anti-air defense.

I'm thinking about using this design for future flying polearms set in the Mundane Realm. For RFR, I might use a more simplified style to show how the first flying polearms still kept most of their original weapon shape before the Inversion Event.

Sketching Pyroblast the Dread-torch!

Been feeling better as of late, so I started drawing my favorite character from Inanimate Insanity, Paintbrush, as a war-torch in my style.

I also wanted to explore some designs for my war-torch characters. Their hair/wick shape, chest and fuel tank armor, and overall anatomy are what I have been waiting to explore for the longest time. The chest armor was inspired by this Shaffron Horse’s Head defense armor and the head design was inspired by the roman helmet with cheek guards. The overall design of all my winged polearm war-objects was based on dragonflies and the shoebill stork.

In the Mundane Realm, Paintbrush would be Pyroblast, a former Dread-torch general of Janthizera who self-librated themself from the tyranny of their own kingdom.

Old stomping grounds

 Well...

....it's been a while since I been here and I am surprised that a few posts are still getting views on here.

Anyway, since I left Twitter (for personal reasons I will not mention here), I also gave up a platform for posting my rough sketches. I like posting on Tumblr, but I like to spread out my content on different platforms. DA, Insta, and my portfolio are mostly for my finished completed work or polished sketches.

So, maybe a possible revival here??? Just for the sketches?

Anyway, here's something I have done recently. I'm writing an objectshow comic about living object people living in a fantasy world. Here's the carrd for one of my stories set within it: Rise of Relics! Also, if you are wondering what the "Not for the use of NFTs" watermark is for: it's to hopefully slow the scrapping of my art by nft art thieves.

I do not support nfts nor have any intention to create or profit off them.

So yeah, enjoy my art! You can find me on other places, too! Check my about me page for more information!

Fantasy Money Project

One of my most favorite projects from the 2012 spring semester at SCAD was the Money Project from my Design 101 Color Theory class.  In this project we create fictional money based on a real or fantasy country.  A narrative of the country should be provided with the original artwork of the fictional money and its downsized version. My money is based on Penrose Capital, a country from my "The Mult" story. I don't have the complete description of my country but I do have some details about it:

  • Name of country:
    • Universe Paradoxa: Penrose Capital, home of the World Traveler Academy
  • Date in time-future/present
    • 2126, founded by the first group of world travelers in 1960s
  • Where s the country located?  What is the geography? Mountains, island, etc. How big is the country - land wise and what is the population?
    • This is in a rare flat universe, a near infinite world with a sky-like dome and a vast flat plane stretched over a chaos filled void.  Paradoxa is an impossible world and its very existence violates the laws of space and time.  This violation of space and time makes it vulnerable to highly unstable wormholes, sudden acceleration and deceleration in time, strange supernatural anomalies, and unexplained creation of sentient living beings which happens every three thousand years.  These anomalies often occur at the edges of the flat universe, but the center and the area surrounding it remain stable.  This area is the Penrose Capital of Paradoxa, named so because of the triangle-like shape of the protected area and of the giant ancient Penrose triangle symbols carved in the twelve districts surrounding it.
  • Type of Government?
    • Penrose Capital is ruled not by single leader but by a group made up of the highest officials of the twelve districts.  Two officials from each district of a different species native or alien to Paradoxa.  There is a congress made up of two courts: Upper is the time and universe travelers, magic and science majors; the lower is the guardians, world builders, supernatural advisers, and hinru-darsian powers.  The upper court watches over the law making, academic studies, and multi dimensional communications. The lower court watches over god-commissioned creation of worlds and realities, god/guardian monitoring, life/death monitoring, and universe and life auctions.
  • What kind of industry is there? How do people make a living?
    • The Penrose capital is a home to the World Traveler Academy, a prestigious school to studying the Multi-verse and its inner workings down to the smallest atom and up to the most powerful gods in existence.  The entire economy, industry, and life of an average world traveler are based on solely on the academic study of the Multi-verse.  The twelve districts of the Penrose Capital contains the majors in which every world traveler can apply and study from:
      1. Brimeh District: Time travel
      2. Trunkefe District: Dimensional travel
      3. Galarchri District: Magic studies and applications
      4. Hedjohit District: Advances of sciences and science applications
      5. Jevassus District: Guardian magic and identity
      6. Saldecota District: Amhphsorsa tunnel and soul analysis
      7. Saldosah District: World commissions and creations
      8. Bameh District: Paradoxain historical and government studies
      9. Hedcasa District: Empire Planet xeno-archeology
      10. Rhamtah District: Penrose and Paradoxain technologies
      11. Sidoya: District: Penrose and Paradoxain defenses, army, and police force
      12. Hinrudarsi District: Hunru-darsiism, magic, dual soul analysis, and Pre-guardian historical studies
  • Any religious belief system?
    • Even though the Penrose Capital discovered the existence of gods, spirits and demons, souls, and other supernatural entities, the county is not founded on a belief system and the people there are free to explore any religious or non-religious ideas including agnosticism, atheism, theism, and other beliefs. The best description of this type of world is that it is Humanitarian-like or Xenoitarian.  The practice of Xenoitarian is the universal acceptance, love, and kindness of all sentient living, artificial, native and alien, supernatural, and physical individuals.  However, due to recent conflicts between gods and guardians and the rise of a single powerful leader controlled government pushed by rogue world travelers, the peace on Penrose Capital may see a horrific demise during the Golden Age of World Traveling.
Here's the penciled and colored of the Penrose Captial money:

Summer Sketches!

A few sketches...

A redraw of an old character (Below).  This was also a sketch on human anatomy from Posemaniacs.com.

A character for the Mult story.
