Sketches, Ideas, and a new project

In a few weeks, I will be embarking on a new project outside of class.  I want to use my skills I developed over the fall and winter quarters during my time at SCAD.  Its going to be a little difficult since I still have my two studio classes for this spring 2012 quarter.  I'll try to spread out this project in a two week period or three period so it won't conflict with my class projects.

Here's my sketches and notes for this project:

Dragon in a waterfall.

More dragons...

The project should be a drawing of a dragon sitting in front of a waterfall and overlooking its beauty.

Sketch-a-day final #6

I uploaded some of my SCAD projects on my Deviantart page, Facebook page, and on Google +.  Most of these artworks are from my winter quarter 2012 drawing class.  Some artworks from this quarter are not included in this collection.  This is mostly because they were not finished to be included with the drawings.  I do eventually want to finish them and when that time comes, I will post both the original and the new drawings online. Also, Sketching with Reckless Abandon will continue on its usual day, Saturday.

Anyway, more sketches, the first three are from my fall quarter last year and the last two are sketches from my winter quarter:

Chiaroscuro drawing with charcoal

Sketch-a-day #5

Finished yesterday's background sketch:

The perspective in this drawing is kinda messed up.  I found it difficult to draw objects in perspective in the realm of fantasy where I have no reference to follow by.  It's easier with still life and life drawing...maybe if I used a still life and convert that into a fantasy setting...maybe that will be my reference.

Sketch-a-day #4

Two sketches this time!

Color pencil base for a fox creature.

Working on a background sketch.  I need to incorporate backgrounds in my drawings of my characters and creatures.  They need a world to live in.  And its nice to practice on something other than creatures.

Sketch-a-Day #3

The camera is working a little better for this sketch.  This bird sketch is a practice on line weight and variety.

Thin lines, thick lines, soft lines, sharp lines, etc.  My teacher from my Drawing II class said that clean and crisp lines make for a great drawing.  Also, using "3-d lines" can help the subject look more dimensional against a flat surface.

Sketch-a-day #2

I had a little trouble taking a photo of this sketch.  The resolution is low and the picture is grainy and difficult to alter in GIMP.

Still working on Briell Featcher's character style.  I might go back to that long coat style. Also, this is the first time in months I'd drawn a full figure character that's a human (??)!

Sketch-a-day (spring break)!

Hello everyone, I'm back and I'm doing great!  I have one week before my classes starts again so I'm posting sketches on the blog everyday.  Hopefully, this will encourage me to sketch more often and encourage me to continue updating this sketch blog.  Anyway to sketches, beginning with a few drawings from my sketchbooks this quarter:

Ink experimentation from a ballpoint pen.

New creature concept of a shadow dog.

Another experiment on ballpoint pen, this time on line weight.
